Letter with NI number for 16yo?

SnowFeet · 08/02/2023 19:28

We got a letter just before he turned 16, asking was the address correct and other details; if all correct we were to do nothing and a NI number would be issued

My DH and I both remember a second letter arriving, presumably containing the NI number for DS, but we’ve lost it! We never opened it and think it may have gone out with the recycling

How do we go about finding his NI number out?

It’s the same as his child trust fund number

If you've ever had Child Benefit for him (and he's the only child) then the banking reference for those payments should contain the NI number.

Oh, we do have both those things! I’ll check now, and hopefully they’ll coincide… Thank you

I would send a letter from your son including his full name, address and dob stating he has lost the letter enclosing the ni number and could they send a duplicate letter.

You can get it resent

Go on gov.uk there's a form you fill in and send to hmrc.

Ok I’ve checked the child benefit payment red (which is made up of MY name and DOB) and the child trust funds which would be two digits short!

Looks like we’ll need to do the form - thanks all Flowers

It’s the account number and the one that is referenced on payments into the account? It is has 8 numbers and a letter at the end - but a NI number also has two letters at the beginning?
