DS1 17 and DS2 15 are obsessed with how they look. They are both very active and very slim. DH is also slim. They’re the people I envy. They eat whatever whenever and don’t gain an ounce in weight. I think about a cake and gain 2lb!
Both the boys are calorie counting and eating healthily and have added additional sensible snacks with added protein and are both going to the gym on top of their usual football and rugby training. It doesn’t seem to matter what they do they do not gain any weight.
I never truly understood that wanting to gain weight and feeling too skinny can be as hard as wanting to lose it and feeling fat. I want to support them. I want them to feel happy in their bodies. I guess I just don’t know how to and am frightened of causing more damage by encouraging them too much. I tell them they are strong and amazing all the time but it’s not enough. I guess in my head when DD19 was a bit younger and went through a ‘I’m fat’ phase we worked together on her not eating less but eating more healthily and she felt better for it so I think encouraging high protein etc for the boys and making sure there is ridiculous amounts of food available for them is the right thing to do but I’m not really sure how to do this the right way? Any suggestions or experiences of successfully gaining weight in a healthy way would be really appreciated.
