DD17 is experiencing first episode of psychotic symptoms. I realise that we are at the beginning of a tough journey. Hoping for some experiences and possibly some good outcomes?

My daughter had her first episode at 14.5 and her second shortly after her 15 th birthday when she was sectioned to an adolescent inpatient unit. 2017 was. Very tough year.

she is now 20 and stable. Again had another rocky year but at least there were clear reasons for her poor mental health. She has stayed out of hospital for all that time. Partly because she and I are better at recognising the signs, partly because adult mental services are so much better than CAMHS

what support are you and your daughter getting? Feel free to private message me Flowers

@fortifiedwithtea Thanks so much for taking the time. I’m really glad to hear that your daughter is doing so well - she was so young when it started.

We are right at the very beginning. Home treatment team tomorrow and Early Intervention Team soon. I’m just hoping someone will prescribe for her quickly.

Fingers crossed for you. Not sure you will get a prescription without seeing a psychiatrist. Risperidone is a mood stabilizer that has worked wonders for my daughter. Worth the side effects, prolactin levels will be monitored closely if she is put on that though.

Practical things we have done. Buy a lockable medicine cabinet. Use airtags in her bags and the find my friend app on the phone. Ours gets the urge to run when she’s unwell. We’ve only just got a Ring doorbell but that would have been useful during an unwell spell.

Also know how to turn the heat down on your hot water system. The day before our daughter was sectioned she would not leave the hot water tap alone.
