Anyone else's teen without Halloween plans?

DS has a few friendship groups but isn't quite central to any at the moment. Having now reached the age of it being parties or going into town instead of trick or treating, everyone else seems to have other arrangements. He wanted to have people round but some were busy and it hasn't worked out. Feel a bit bad for him. Anyone else's teen sidelined in this way? Thoughts on how to handle it?

My teens have never done anything for Halloween particularly (since ks1) neither have any of their friends. I don't think its a case of everyone else is doing something, although he might feel this way.

I didn't even realise it was a thing for teens.
We just stopped doing Halloween stuff when they stopped being young enough for trick or treat.

Could he maybe dress up and be at the door at your house for any visitors?

Thanks, it's helpful to know it's not necessarily a big social calendar event. It was looking a bit that way. I think I'm focusing on it because of the shifting around among friendship groups and that's what is making it seem more of a thing.

Having some of the news updates tonight about the crush in South Korea has also put it in perspective. Just awful to happen to young people on a night out.

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor that's a good idea. We had mentioned it but I'll definitely now get him to take charge of the sweet bowl!

Yes, here too, DD17. A shame for her, but next year she'll be away at Uni (hopefully) and I expect there will be stuff going on then.

I have the same with dd. Too old for trick or treating but hasn’t been invited to any parties. We had a Halloween themed dinner tonight at friends with similar aged children. Could you invite friends over on Halloween to have themed food, a movie?

I just think thank god mine aren't at parties - according to the cool mum brigade on other posts, a party isn't a party unless 14 -17yos go loaded with bottles of vodka!

Yes, my 15DD had a party but unfortunately fell out with that friendship group last week! So she's now going trick or treating on Monday with a BF in a giant dinosaur costume instead and seems very happy!

My DS18 is a bit introverted but has gone to a club with friends tonight dressed as Boris Johnson!

Yes my teen is the same. A little too old of trick or treating but hasn’t been invited to any parties that all her friends are going to. Quite upset for her. It’s a tricky age.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 30/10/2022 11:13

Dd14 and a few friends are going to go trick or treating. I don’t think they got the memo about them being too old. They’ll probably get up to some other shady teenage shit while they’re out.

dd17 wouldn’t be doing anything as she’s pretty hopeless at making plans with friends. But the care home she works at is throwing a party for the residents so she’s going to go along to that dressed up after college. Bless her, she loves the old folks.

My son never went trick or treating as a child he just wasn't into it and this year is the first year he has gone to a teen Halloween party and he is 15.

My other son is 12 and none of his friends are doing anything for Halloween apart from the ones being taken to little kid parties with their younger siblings.

I dont think a quiet Halloween is an indication of social exclusion.

DD normally is off with a friend, either a proper party or just dress up with pizza and lots of movies.

This year it seems nobody is doing anything. She is also in the middle of mocks and one of her friends got ill so that may also contribute. She is currently watching The Addams Family.

She is asked to dress up tomorrow for her theatre drama class and the Explorers are doing some spooky stuff the day after.
