Can you suggest a spot cream

Hi,

Not looking for skin care as such as DD has a pretty good routine. But can anyone suggest a spot cream to put on the spot that works.

I mean gosh- I'm old and have suffered with spots too- but I don't think these things really work, just good skin care and diet, hygiene etc. but if you know of anything that is good for young skin, that might help, please share. Thanks!

Benozyl peroxide is one of the strongest. You may have to ask in the pharmacy.

minipie · 28/10/2022 23:24

Yup benzoyl peroxide would be my first port of call. You can buy weaker strength over the counter (Acnecide cream for example). Or get higher strength on prescription. There is also Epiduo available on prescription which is a mix of benzoyl peroxide and retinol.

You don’t put benzoyl peroxide cream just on the spot though. You use it at night and put it on the whole area where you get spots (ie the whole face). It is more for preventing spots than getting rid of existing spots although it does help them heal more quickly IME.

I would also recommend Cerave face wash.

SwayingInTime · 28/10/2022 23:26

Cerave and acnecide here too

TheOGCCL · 28/10/2022 23:30

Acnecide. What I put on spots depends what type they are but this helps them all.

tea tree oil.

Acneside I found works wonders

Nolosomi · 28/10/2022 23:59

This stuff is great!

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion (Glass bottle) 29ml amzn.eu/d/dN2xgsB

Clean and clear advantage rapid gel. Really works when put on and left over night.

Discovereads · 29/10/2022 00:10

We just went to the GP and got some Duac on prescription. Most spots are caused by hormones, so good skin care, diet, and hygiene won’t make a difference.

I’d also strip down her routine as much as you can because over cleansing the face can make more spots/spots worse. As can things like masks, scrubs, moisturisers and so on.

Gardengirl108 · 29/10/2022 00:14

Clean & Clear Advantage spot control treatment gel - works for me every time. Comes in a little tube so meant for the odd spot, not full face treatment. Good luck!

lulubelle1977 · 29/10/2022 14:41

Thanks. Anecide? Is that something I can buy or prescription? Not that bad so may go for the clean and clear one.

You can get spot patches now that contain benzoyl peroxide and also stop the person picking. Wear it over night. Just search them on superdrug or boots

“We just went to the GP and got some Duac on prescription. Most spots are caused by hormones, so good skin care, diet, and hygiene won’t make a difference.”

Yes this ^^ - or the Yasmin contraceptive pill.

Please let’s not perpetrate the myth that ‘skin care, diet or hygiene’ has anything to do with teenage hormonal acne. I’ve known chocolate and chip munching teens who never take their make up off with peaches and cream skin. It’s just the hormonal and genetic luck of the drawer.

Sudocrem

minidancer · 29/10/2022 15:21

Look at an LED face mask with red and blue light

MissyB1 · 29/10/2022 15:30

Ds has Duac on prescription. It works but word of caution, ds finds it stings a lot just after applying.
Some days (when he can’t face Duac) we just use Asda tea tree spot gel which is surprisingly good.

lulubelle1977 · 29/10/2022 17:36

Sorry, yes of course. I just meant that DD is doing other things. Thanks again, Superdrug sell acneside.

Just to warn you Acnecide (or any benzoyl peroxide cream) will bleach fabric. So a white pillowcase is best and maybe a white or light PJ top
