Girls and body image

My 19yr old is really struggling and I don’t know how best to help without making things worse. I should explain she has some learning difficulties, some physical limitations and has had serious health problems in the past. She’s lovely and has overcome so much. She is overweight but broad and curvy. She is really struggling with her body image. How do you encourage a healthy approach to food/exercise without the guilt? And self confidence when it’s so hard to find clothing that fits. She wants to dress like other teenagers who all seem to be slim. I feel I’m failing her

I just found this via search as my DD13 is struggling with poor body image due to cruel comments at school and I really don't know how to help her. She's not overweight but she is 6'1" and not a beanpole so boys call her 'chubby' and 'fat' even though she isn't. It's heartbreaking.

Sorry your DD is feeling this way. Does she overeat and if so, what are the reasons? Maybe getting her to embrace exercise (if she doesn't already would help?) - just starting to walk regularly outside and building up fitness can be a great segue to other forms of exercise.
