How much revision for November GCSE mocks??

I think my DD is doing too much. She does take breaks - but revision has been dominating evenings and weekends. I'm glad she's taking it seriously, but I don't think she's giving herself proper breaks and obviously the more tired she is the more stressed she gets and the less she gets out of revising. Also conscious there's a long way to go and I don't want her to burn out before we get to the real thing. Her teacher has had a word and thinks she's on top of things, but it doesn't feel like that.

How do we help to balance revision and getting a break over half term?

DD had mocks the week before half-term and the week after. Her school sees 2 hours per day homework and revision as standard.

We did a homework/revision schedule as she has hobbies most evenings each week. So she knows what she wants to cover each day. and does work between 4.30 - 6pm most days plus a bit extra on the weekend.

I'd see if you can get her to have at least 1 whole day off over half term and then also some afternoons.

For DD1 a number of years ago now, she revised in the mornings, had every afternoon off, then 1.5-2hrs early evening.
GCSE year is a marathon not a sprint and you are right to think about burn out.

Suggest you start talking now about having a break at Christmas too - at least 5 consecutive days.

Thanks both. Appreciate the advice. Delayed in responding because it turned out younger DD's opposing approach to schoolwork has turned out to be the bigger problem this half term!! Teenagers 😖

Wow my 15yr has done none nor been set any by her school… eye opening the level of revision here. Guess that’s why her school “needs improvement”! We haven’t even got a date for mocks .

DS is doing the bare minimum, an hour a day. I've sadly accepted that if he messes them up he might get his act together for his February mocks......
