Hi
I'm rly struggling with my 13yr old who is trying to assert her independence. She wanted to stay over at a party last night, I said no. Her boyfriend and friends were all staying over, have I been unreasonable? Honest answers appreciated

Of course you were not unreasonable, she's a child.

She’s 13. Not unreasonable at all. How old is he?

I don’t see a problem with a 13 year old having a boyfriend, as per your thread title but I wouldn’t let my 13 year old stay overnight with her boyfriend no.

Thank you for your reply. The sleepover was at her boyfriend's house, it was his brothers birthday and other children were staying. Some of the other kids are in yr 10, and their parents seem to be a lot more easy going. I am questioning myself as a parent. I rarely stop her from doing what she wants, I always try to compromise, but last night I got called controlling and pathetic by my 13 yr old. :(😞

Seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Compromise is good in some cases but this I wouldn’t allow.

Definitely not unreasonable. She's a child, she stays under your roof and she'll thank you for it later. You job is to be a mum, not to be popular (that was the best piece of advice given to me), to some extent it is normal & healthy that your decisions are unpopular to your teenager!

Yanbu, I agree with previous posters
