Building no claims bonus as a named driver on a policy

Oh wise MNers

Does anyone know of a car insurance policy that allows teenagers who have just passed their driving tests to (hopefully) start building up their no claims bonus without having their own policies?

Ds will be a named driver on DH’s car while he’s learning and once he’s passed his test. He has no need for his own car yet, but it’ll be a shame if he can’t start building a no claims bonus until he does have his own car, which will probably be after he finished FE college.

No idea on the teenage aspect, but I did exactly this with Direct Line. I was in my 30s though 😁

I've been on my oH's insurance for 33 years and I have no no claims

We did it with DD2 on DD1’s policy. I think that was with Admiral.

I just insured my dd with Marmalde. It says they build up their own no claims. I also got their pay as you go insurance with a tag in the car which made it more affordable for me as was going to be £2k a year on my insurance. I don't imagine she is going to be doing loads of miles just yet so it seems a good way to go for now.

Sort of - but they only gave me 2 years despite 12 years claim freeConfused

@skyeisthelimit Thanks, that article says that it is possible but doesn’t say who offers it!

@Don'tknowwhichnametopick that’s my worry, the sooner ds can get a year or two NCB under his belt the better!

@Mmmmdanone is that an additional policy on the same car just to cover your dd?

@gogohmm that’s no good! who was it with?

Yes I'm with Churchill and dd with marmalade.

Yes I'm with Churchill and dd with marmalade.

I’d never considered having 2 separate policies for the same car! No idea why not, it makes perfect sense to achieve our goal.
