Periods and watersports

DD age 13 just started 2nd period and it's looking increasingly likely she might have one while on watersports holiday with friends in a couple of months. Not sure how to help her prepare for and deal with this. Suggest she tries tampons now? I've seen period swimwear exists but don't understand how it works...doesn't it just absorb water? And it would surely take ages to dry but she'll be in a swimsuit loads. I'm thinking I need to get her to try tampons asap...this had not occurred to me when we booked aaaages ago.

Both I suggest- doesn't hurt to double up anyway. I found the period underwear doesn't dry any slower than the padded bikini s

My 13 yr old Dd started her periods at 10 and uses Modibodi for swimming and hot tubs. I'm not sure how it works if I'm honest but I know it does work as she's never had a leak in or out of the pool even on her heaviest days. Highly recommended. Dd didn't want to try tampons at all.

Maybe consider a moon cup?

I'd love to get her using a moon cup or other more environmentally friendly options longer term. I haven't used anything myself in years so having to familiarise myself with latest options. I think for the purpose of the holiday (I won't be there with her) it needs to be as convenient as possible for her.

That's good to know. Maybe I'll get some period bikini bottoms that she can wear under swimsuit and dark board shorts. And I'll chat to her about trying tampons and/ or mooncup.

Mooncup defo but she will at least need tampons in the short term if going on a water sports holiday.

That's probably what will make her feel more secure. Poor lamb it's the last thing she needs but best she 'practices' now so that if she does come on half way through the trip she's prepared mentally as well as on a practical level.

Yeah I think tampons will be needed... period underwear is great for home but she can't be rinsing, washing, drying period underwear in a shared dorm bathroom.
