Teenagers and exercise…family parkrun

My DH and I go to parkrun most week. Kids have always come too and started off doing half a parkrun when little and now all do a full parkrun. Our eldest is now a teenager and is moaning about coming. We’ve always said he can drop parkrun to take up another sport but he’s not interested in any sport so had just kept coming to parkrun with us. He’s was getting to really enjoy it before lockdown happened and was taking on the pacers we have at our local one and enjoyed getting quicker and quicker. Since lockdown he often moans about coming but enjoys having done it afterwards. He’s old enough to leave at home but spends a lot of time on electronics so I’ve always thought it’s good to do something like parkrun especially in the holidays. But I am also not a fan of making kids do things they don’t want to do unnecessarily.
Any advice? Is it time to let the 14 year old make his own choices of things like this? He’ll definitely not come if given the choice.

I bribe mine with mcdonalds breakfast afterwards. It gets him out the house and some quality time with me.
I won't let him spend all day gaming unless he's had exercise.

Thanks - that approach worked a treat. I asked him whether he wants to go for a 30 min walk with dog tomorrow or go to the park with his siblings and he’s opted for the park! Taken all the tension out of the situation. I’m glad I posted and asked.

yeah, I can still lure my nearly 18yo out for a country walk if chips or ice cream are involved!! I swear teens are just toddlers with BO.
