My Dd is 15 and I have just found her phone and read some messages that she sent to a friend a few months ago.
She told her friend that she struggles massively with body dysmorphia. That she hates her upper body - her boobs and stomach (she is not overweight at all). She showers in the dark, never looks at herself in a mirror and has been tempted to self harm! She said she cries herself to sleep often and the thought of anyone touching her upper body makes her feel sick! She told her friend she had questioned her gender but she doesn’t think it is this.
How the hell did I miss this. What the hell do I do?
Please help! I’m at a complete loss!

Sorry I don't know the answer but just giving you a bump as I can see no replies yet... this must be very upsetting for you. It's hard being a girl in this world. My daughter is still a baby and I am already worrying about how to be a good mum to a teenager.

As I said I don't know but maybe try to start encouraging your daughter to share more with you very slowly by finding something to do together that you both enjoy. And maybe introduce some female role models that don't look like bloody insta models. Like sportswomen or scientists. To counteract the horrible myth that you have to look a certain way or you're worthless.

Good luck and big hug.
