Teenager’s friends’ phone numbers?

My DS is 16 and virtually never has friends over. He prefers to go into town with them which I’m fine with. I’ve met a few of his friends very briefly.
I suddenly wondered if should I have his close friends phone numbers just in case anything ever happens when they’re out and I need to contact them?

Sensible , not intrusive.
You can have them written down on a piece of paper in your handbag or diary for use in proper emergencies.

No I don’t have numbers for his friends and not sure if he entirely happy with other parents having my kid’s numbers.

In an emergency I’m sure I could contact one of their friends via social media and vice versa.

I have numbers for an assortment of my DC's friends from when they've used a friends phone to call me. Other than that, no.

In any kind of emergency, I can't see why you would be wanting to try to track down people (who may well have good privacy settings) on social media. What an odd, long winded way round, when you could just have their number in your phone

I've also got the numbers of about 1/2 a dozen people that my youngest is at University with, and I asked her to give my number to them. Quite reassuring when they are a long way away. She's in 2nd year now and I've never used any of them but did come close recently when she had her phone stolen and no-one heard from her for a few days.

I have a few numbers for my 16 yo's friends but these came abput when she offered me them or used her friend's phone to call me. I do save the numbers as it is sometimes useful, rarely, but sometimes.
