DD refusing to eat 'at school'

DD is actually still only 12 but is acting like a fully fledged teen already!Hmm

She hasn't eaten breakfast before heading out for a few months now, but I remember being like that and other teenagers I know have a similar attitude towards food first thing. But now she's saying she doesn't want to eat lunch at school either!!

How common is this? Is it a phase? She'll eat when she comes home, but we're concerned that it'll affect her concentration levels during the day.

Here are a few things that stand out from your posts:

  • a year ago DD went pescatarian
  • a few months ago she cut out breakfast
  • now she has cut out lunch
  • she is conscious to eat healthy, regularly eating veg and salads

Whether you want to accept it or not your daughter is already restricting her food intake. Be vigilant. ED’s are sneaky and manipulative and thrive on secrecy. They are also ridiculously glamourised on social media at the moment, are highly competitive amongst teens and are rife in schools at the moment. What’s the betting there are some girls in her friendship group not eating lunch and this has had an impact on your DD?

You may well be right that your DD is absolutely fine but I think a frank and honest discussion with your DD would be prudent.

Do you know the calorie content of what she eats. At 12 she should be having 2,200 calories per day. Is what she is eating at home reaching that level?
