18th birthday present for daughter

Apologies as I'm sure there's lots of threads about this but I can't find any. DD will be 18 soon and I have no ideas. All I do know is that I'd like her to have something to keep. She has a charm bracelet but friends are getting a charm. Her grandparents are buying her a ring. She's off to uni next September hopefully but I can't think what she needs for that which will be a keepsake.
Suggestions please!

Nice watch?

NCTDN · 20/11/2021 22:04

I wondered about a watch. What makes are timeless but appealing to their age group?

I am looking for my daughter who is 18 in 3 months, I am thinking of a one off piece of jewellery from an independant jeweller, not expensive but original for her.

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 22/11/2021 23:14

I put some £ in a green isa for my ds so he could see the investment going up (and down).
Also a first edition of a book he likes and a piece of art (print!) from the RA’s summer exhibition.

We got our DD a private reg for the car, because she would lose jewellery and other nice things as she is scatty AF 🤦🏼‍♀️

NCTDN · 23/11/2021 06:41

Ooh a private Reg is a good idea!

I got mine a Tiffany necklace, and I’m surprised at how much she wears it.

Bunce1 · 23/11/2021 06:49

Leather bag
Cashmere throw
Goose down bedding
Piece of art
Posh backpack

GrealishHairband · 23/11/2021 13:17

@NCTDN yes, we figured it was something that she could keep forever and hopefully impossible for her to misplace 😂

boreduser · 23/11/2021 20:43

I'm not sure you can get private reg plates any more, I think you can only buy existing ones!
They've changed the age for lottery tickets to 18 so that could be a fun smaller gift.

I got a watch for my 18th and still use it now, I think it depends if she's the type to appreciate and wear it now as Fitbits/Apple watches are more some people's thing. My watch was from Olivia Burton and apart from a few batteries and a strap replacement it's still going strong. Not sure how fashionable the brand is today but I like mine.

Perfume could be another idea if you know the kind of thing she likes, not exactly a keepsake but some brands will let you engrave a message on the bottle.

Mine didn’t want anything to keep in that sense, they chose a weekend away with a friend/boyfriend. One to Amsterdam and one to Paris (I said it had to be train rather than fly)
They said it was the best memories that they’ll keep - first trip as an adult.

theremustonlybeone · 23/11/2021 20:54

I sent my daughter away for the weekend to Madrid with her best mate. I also got a Pandora bracelet and charm.

Newmum29 · 23/11/2021 21:14

My mum got me a mulberry bag from Bicester which I loved. Kept it for 10 years, for my 21st she got me a Michael Kors gold watch (the ones that ended up everywhere). Loved both.

GrealishHairband · 23/11/2021 21:56

@boreduser the one we bought DD hadn’t been registered previously it was a brand new plate as far as I know. We just searched using her name and the website threw up lots of possibilities, some ‘available’ and others that were ‘for sale’.

cheninblanc · 29/11/2021 21:53

Bought my dd a michael kors watch, she had a small hand in choosing it. She's 18 next week

Kendodd · 29/11/2021 22:03

Bit left field but what about a pair of really good quality walking boots or wellies? They should last her decades.
Or a backpack/suitcase? Again really good quality, last forever and initialled.

Love the idea of a trip with a friend. Memories (and photos) for a lifetime x
