My 14 daughter wants a herbal vape

As a parent my immediate reaction is no!!! But then when I reflect upon it I am pleased that she’s been open and honest with me. I accept she’s probably going to experiment over the next couple of years and if she’s happy to confide in me that’s a good thing.

The herbal thing is a conundrum though - there’s no nicotine in it or other nasties but then again there’s no research to know if they’re 100 percent safe…

I’m left wondering whether I should facilitate her experimenting with my knowledge (although not encouraging) or stamp down on it but risk her doing something on her own and in secret….

Any advice welcome….

The answer should be "absolutely not." Vaping is not safe. With your daughter, look up Popcorn Lung and all of the other very serious lung conditions that vaping can cause.

I’d be showing her some diseased lungs if she were mine . I am mid 50s , lifelong non smoker and have chronic lung disease due to a variety of reasons all outside of my control , I’m short of breath on even normal walking and frankly it’s a shit disease to have .

Tell her that she can have one when she's old enough to buy one for herself.

The current legal age for that is 18 so she might have to wait a while.

Agree with above response, encourage her to investigate the risks involved. I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound healthy. More health consequences may become known in years to come, given vaping is relatively new. I'd also be wary of starting with herbal vaping and progressing to something stronger.

Thank you all. Very helpful and thoughtful comments.

Not a chance. (I have a 14 year old dd too)
I'm not going to condone her doing something illegal and potentially unsafe health wise. It's still my job to provide rules and boundaries at 14, if she challenges them she'll deal with the consequences.

Why does she want one? No nicotine so what’s the buzz? What herbs supposed to do? I suspect it’s mainly to look cool and less to do with wanting to vape the equivalent of camomile tea bag. There is age restriction for a reason if she was 17 less you can do but she still has 4y before can legally use or buy.

I bought my daughter an aromatherapy vape (MONQ on Amazon) and she doesn’t seem to be having any breathing problems and she’s still doing sprinting for her club with no problem!

She says she likes the smoke (🤔🤣) and it’s discouraged her from vaping with actual nicotine vapes so 🤷🏼‍♀️
Herbal vapes should be safe but I do agree there is limited research :/
