First noticed ds had a grey hair a couple of years ago and since then he’s been gradually getting a few more. Now has a noticeable amount dotted throughout.
He’s aware of them but doesn’t seem bothered so I’m not making a thing out of it but I am a bit concerned. Myself and DH both started having the odd grey hair in our mid 20s, so fairly early I suppose.
DS is otherwise fit and healthy.

I got my first grey hair at 12. My grandmother was white by the age of 30 and DDad was grey from his early 20s. DD has found greys and she's 14. So it runs in our family.

DD isn't too bothered really, like your ds. She uses semi-permanent dye in the school holidays not because of the greys but to look different. Otherwise, she doesn't care. It's not cause for concern.

I started going grey at 14-16. I had some grey strands for years and didnt really start going grey properly until I was in my late 20s. Im now 38 and am probably about 60% grey, but I have had a very stressful event in my life which accelerated it.

if it doesn't bother your son then I wouldnt worry about it!

I got my first grey at around 18. Almost 40 now and it's completely white or grey. I dyed it for years but grew it out over lockdown and it gets lots of admiration, and the young people at work tell me silver is 'in'.

I started getting a few grey hairs by the time I was 13. Almost completely grey by 30. I do recall having some blood tests, no idea what for. I can't remember. But mum was worried. Everything was fine though.

Both her and dad went grey mid to late 20s.

My DSIS had enough grey to need to colour her hair by 18 as did my DM. I'm late 30's and have just one or two greys. I think it's just the luck of the draw.

In a weird way it's good news for him as men with grey hair early tend to keep it.
Maybe check with your GP if your worried it's a sign of a medical issue but if he's not concerned then I wouldn't worry cosmetically.
I fancied a lad with a lot of grey hair when I was late teens, he was gorgeous and the grey hair made him look unique at that age.

A friend from uni started going grey just before he started. He was gorgeous and the grey just added to his good looks. It never seemed to bother him. He’s now almost completely grey (we’re early 30s) and he’s still very good looking

It didn’t bother him but if it’s bothering your Ds maybe hair dye?

Bigblueone · 07/08/2021 08:23

I’m so pleased I asked about this - your replies have been really reassuring thank you. Been looking into hair dye to suggest for him but I think I’ll probably leave it now.

My ds has had 5 grey hairs since he was 4 years old! Yet I only started finding greys at about 34 and still don't have enough to warrant colouring my hair a few years later. It's all a bit random with when people get them and how much goes grey.

GoWalkabout · 07/08/2021 08:27

Yes don't make a big thing, don't tease and if anything use the 'well at least that means you have more chance of keeping it' because that's a good comeback for him to keep in his back pocket. Shame that men now too are encouraged to dye. Its all just for companies profit ultimately.

YanTanTethera123 · 07/08/2021 08:34

If he’s not worried then that’s fine isn’t it? My DS had a few at 18 and enjoyed being different, he certainly didn’t want to dye them!
My DD has very few at 42 - at that age I was silver haired!

This suggests that you have negative feelings about the look of grey hair. Your concern is based on your opinion, not your son's. Have a look at some silver foxes. Do you really see any problem here?
