17 year old DS and a group of friends going - from Weds to Bank Hol Monday ( have early bird tickets). First festival experience for all. I am a little anxious - if anyone can offer any advice/tips for either me or DS I’d be v grateful 😊

am I right in thinking a valid covid test needs to be presented on re-entering the site?

waterrat · 25/08/2021 05:38

My experience of going to festivals from 16 onwards are some of the best times of my life. ! I am.old so was going before mobiles. I would advise them on how to survive without a phone if needed ie no signal or battery.

We used to have pre arranged meet points.

However. They will survive without your advice.!

Write down an ICE contact on their arm in case they get ill /try drugs etc

Wondergirl100 · 26/08/2021 15:33

I wish my parents had spoken to me a bit more honestly about drugs - though they couldn't really as they had literally no idea what life was like for teens in the 90s.

I would tell my own teens that if they are planning on experimenting with drugs, not to mix them and not to drink alcohol at the same time - I'm afraid abstinence messaging is a waste of time (in my opinion) - and just leads them to make poor decisions.

Several full charging banks
Download the 3 words app so they can find each other and the tent. Wink

Seconding the do not camp near the toilets message.

Sun cream, baby wipes, weather looks good!

Benjispruce5 · 28/08/2021 11:27

DD went after 6th form. She rang on the first Wed night hating it, people having sex noisily in the tent next to hers(they’re very close) and everyone smoking weed and doing other stuff. By the time she came home she said she loved it. She was very lucky not to get ill as there were hours of queues for taps to get water and it was v hot and sunny. She barely ate as it was v expensive and too far to walk apparently. My idea of hell!

Benjispruce5 · 28/08/2021 11:28

Oh and when she got home, filthy and sunburnt, she fell asleep in her stuff for at least 12 hrs.

Godwits · 28/08/2021 13:20

My idea of hell!

Grin it does sound grim, doesn't it?!

maltravers · 29/08/2021 13:13

Does anyone know if the “Sunday night riots” still happen as it all sounds a bit alarming..?

wibblywobble · 02/09/2021 07:20

So how many positive Covid tests since Reading?! 3 of my daughters friends have tested positive so far... 😷

On the plus side she had a brilliant time, came back buzzing and so much more confident and grown up.

Benjispruce5 · 02/09/2021 08:39

Lots anecdotally.

woulducouldushouldu · 02/09/2021 08:40

Negative so far but she is double vacc'd.

Localher0 · 02/09/2021 08:42

All but one of my DDs friends have come back positive. Hopefully they won't be too ill and/or miss the start of school 🙄
My DD & her friend were double vaxxed so hopefully that worked 🤞🏻

Benjispruce5 · 02/09/2021 10:42

School is tomorrow or next week isn’t it? Most will miss the start . My DD has to do a supervised LFT on return.
