16 year old hotel job

My 16 year old has just finished Y11 and has found a part time job at a wedding venue. First shift is tomorrow, 6pm till 1.30am. Someone has suggested to me today that he legally shouldn't be working past midnight. I'm surprised the venue would have got this wrong, does anyone have experience or knowledge of this? Based in England. I'd be delighted to be able to pick him up at 12.00 instead of 1.30am (and by the way no way will he be doing such late shifts once school restarts!)

The rules are here: www.acas.org.uk/young-workers-apprentices-and-work-experience

The first Google result says - Night working
Those aged 16 or 17 must not work after 10pm or before 7am.

They can work until midnight or from 4am onwards if it's necessary in the following types of work:

advertising
agriculture
a bakery
catering
a hospital or similar
a hotel, pub or restaurant
post or newspaper delivery
retail
But this is only if:

there are no adult workers available to do the work
working those hours will not have a negative effect on the young person's education or training
If they do need to work after 10pm or before 7am, the employer must make sure the young worker:

is supervised by one or more adult workers where necessary for their protection
has enough rest at another time if they need to work during their normal rest breaks or rest periods
It's against the law for anyone aged under 18 to work between midnight and 4am, even if they do one of the jobs above.

Yes that is correct. He shouldn’t be working last midnight.

Thank you. The rules as set out by Acas seem very clear. I'm just really surprised the venue is wrong. Unless they are planning on sending him home at midnight and haven't mentioned it
