How does your teen feel about smoking?

Do they smoke? If so, how did they get started? From what you can gather do the 'cool' kids at their schools smoke, or is it 'lame/sad/whatever-the-current-phrase is' these days?

Thanks for the replies! I was asking because I don't have teens of my own and I don't know any, but they are the upcoming generation and it's interesting to see if there's been a significant decrease since I was at school. It's crazy to me to think when I was that age you could still smoke indoors!

Mine doesnMt but I have two older DC one of whom smoked at parties and has stopped in their mid to late 20s and the other who started at boarding school and continues to smoke.

Thinks it's for losers. Knows the health statistics. Has a relative who smokes and dislikes the smell. There was one boy in his friendship group who was vaping but others didn't follow suit.

DSs view smoking as something they would never want to do.
DD smokes to be 'cool'

DD 19 doesn't smoke or vape and none of her close school friends do either.
Quite a few of her new Uni friends seem to smoke weed though.

ds(17) doesn't smoke or vape and neither do any of his current friendship group. He is very logically minded and thinks it stinks, it can kill you, why on earth would anyone even try it.

He watched my dad, who stopped heavy smoking in his late 40's, but too late to stop the damage, suffer with COPD throughout his late 60's and 70's, the last couple of years were horrific, constantly attached to an oxygen machine at home. ds was there, 12 years old, when we found him dead.

He has broken off and moved friendship groups a couple of times when previous groups started smoking, or spending their time drinking and not much else. There is a minority of kids in his year who are wannabe cool kids, they hang about with other wannabes from from other schools, and more worryingly older (normally boys) that have just left school and they look up to. They all hang about in parks/outside at night and smoke, vape, drink, dabble in soft drugs and low level anti social behaviour.

General opinion from him and his friends is they are all losers and to be avoided.

19 year old DS detests it and gets angry if someone blows smoke anywhere near him in public.

One teen and one slightly older DC here - neither smoke nor vape.

They actively complain about the smell of cigarette (and weed) smoke when it drifts over the hedge from the neighbours. They also have always hated the fact that a few of DP's relatives (who live in a country where smoking seems more prevalent) smoke constantly and that the smell permeates everything despite them smoking outside.

I'm pretty sure that 16yo DS has said that the smokers/vapers also tend to be the weed smokers
