We were having a heart to heart and he just came out with it. Said he tried to hang himself. I’m devastated we are so close, I’m a single parent to him, his father is not on the scene. He said he was really low he tried it didn’t work.

He said lockdown is making him feel really low. I’ve asked can I take him to doctors he doesn’t want to go. I’ve said he can speak to me about anything and I will never be cross or angry.

I don’t know what to do. Shall I go to doctor anyway? He is 18 so probably not.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure it's such a shock for you.

I think it's great though that he's trusting you enough to share this.

If he won't agree to having some support (and you can't force him) I guess you could ask for some help as a mother to explore your feelings and concerns, even 1-2 sessions with someone like a family therapist or psychotherapist may be helpful to assist you in sorting out your reactions to this difficult news
