How much time does your 13/14 year old spend on their phone?

Constant battles with dd (nearly 14) over phone use.

She has an iPhone so I use parental limits on the phone. Up to fairly recently I was setting downtime and also screen limits (so she can only use it for X hours/day, can't remember how many hours I set).

However during lockdown she asked if I could remove the screen limit as she felt rushed to finish something before it would cut out which I can understand being a bit annoying. I was trying to strike a balance between giving her a bit of independence and a chance to prove she is trustworthy and still setting some boundaries.

However I was shocked to see on her phone the other day over NINE hours use/day!! I think this is way too much.

She has it in her room during the day when she has live lessons or doing schoolwork as she chats to her friends (as she would at school she says).

If I insist she leaves her phone downstairs during the school day it will not go down well and result in a lot of arguments and stress.

She is diagnosed ASD if that makes a difference.

She has a laptop as well which she uses for Netflix etc.

God only knows how many hours my dds 16 and 13 spend on their phones. When they are at school they’re quite good at self limiting, they’re not up all night on them or anything like that. In lockdown I have to say I haven’t been checking, but it’s significantly more.

I'd dread to think too. I think DC1 is actually getting bored of it and has started running and tonight he's baked a cake. We're lucky if we see DC2.

I'm with you. We have parent control downtime etc. She is in her room all day on lessons/chatting to friends etc. We've said 6h a day should be a limit. Is she up until late? Mine is a night owl - seems they all chat till early morning so this adds to it.
