How are my children tall with short-ish parents?

Ds - 16 and 2 months , 6.2
Dd - 11 and 8 months , 5.4

Me and their dad are both quite short - me 5.6 and Dad 5.8

How can this be ??

Forgot to mention epigenetic factors.

I bf both mine. Ds is 5'10" and dd is 5'0
They're both adults.
My dh is 5'6" and I am 5'5"".
My uncle's were tall and dh grandad so I assume it's that for ds although 5'10" not that tall for a male.
My dd's fiancé is 6'0 it will be interesting to see how tall any dc they have will be.

No, this isn't how genetics works.

@1stV45 - @donquixotedelamancha has explained the genetics (you get a mix from both sides but there are many potential outcomes in terms of height). In my family it's true we have our height from my mother's side but that doesn't mean it's universal.

I'm 5'8 and DH is 5'7.

DS is 6'2 and DD just about scrapes 5'0. The height difference between them is almost comedic! (Although when DD was 8 and DS was 10, they were actually the same height!)

My son was 17 when he passed his driving test . Whenever he borrowed my car the police would stop him and check his driving license. He was small and looked about 12 years old. A year or so later he hit 6 ft 1 inch . No problem driving now

DPs parents are reasonably short. Mum around 5ft6 (though more like 5ft4 these days) and dad about 5ft8. They are also both dark haired.

DP is 6ft3 and fair. We always joke that the had a tall blonde milk man around the time of his conception. But in truth his father takes after his mother and so is quite small, but DP looks like his grandad and uncle who were/are both quite tall.

I’m 5ft3.5 and dd1 almost 16 is 5ft6, which is the height I would expect a daughter of ours to be.

Dd2 is only 5ft2. She is only 12, but all the girls on our side of the family stop growing at around that age and she is very well developed in all other areas. So this may be it for her!
