Do you supervise your 16 year olds with their girlfriend?

DS recently turned 16. He has a new girlfriend who is nearly 16. Ds has never really had a girlfriend before so we're new to this. We've had a chat with DS about not rushing things, etc but when she comes over, we've been leaving them alone and not really supervising what's going on. I'm trusting them to be sensible but should I be keeping more of an eye on them?

I mean, what are you afraid of happening? They'll probably have sex at some point. That's very normal. Talk to your son about consent and contraception, and then give them some space. Having you breathing down their necks is just likely to drive them to far less sensible choices.

@Ohalrightthen thanks. I am worried about pregnancy! We've had a chat about contraception and respect but I do completely leave them to it so anything could happen. I suppose I just have to trust them to be sensible.

They're no more likely to get pregnant now than they are at any other point in their lives. Make sure there are condoms in the house and he knows where they are.

Oh crikey I'd not thought about buying condoms. Thanks so much for taking the time to give the advice.

Ds(16) has an app on his phone where he can go into a pharmacy and show the screen without having to ask to get free condoms, don't think he has used it yet but knows it is there. It is an app specific to our area in Scotland but there are probably others, worth looking up your local sexual health services to see what they provide.
