Periods not started - just over 14

My daughter turned 14 in May and is yet to show signs of her period starting. She has a small amount of breast development which has been fairly recent. She is a little bit anxious about it and initially I said that we’d wait until she was 15 and if still no sign then we’d speak to the GP. Should we be going now or is it fairly common to be a little bit later?

@OrganicSmorganic

Overthinkingisme if she’s 5ft6 and just under 8stone then she’s a bit underweight. This can have an affect.
An adult would be but the healthy BMI range is lower for a 14 year old than an adult. I'm 5ft5 and just under 8 stone so I don't think a 14 year old pretty much my size would be too light.

I started at 14 but one friend was 16 - we all develop at different rates. It's something to be aware of but I don't think you need to worry yet.

I was at college and nearly 17 when I started, probably a little later than most. I wouldn't be worrying until she is over 16 if there are other signs she is developing ok.

I was 17. All were perfectly normal and regular once they came.

I was 15 1/2

I was 16, so was my sister and my mum.. I do remember desperately wanting them to start because I was the last of my friends but looking back was lucky to be one of the later ones.
Also RE people saying she's underweight for her height/age... please don't give her a complex about it.. I'm only 8 1/2 stone (5ft7) and 32 years old...I eat loads however just don't put weight on easily... I find it so offensive being judged on being smaller the same as someone overweight would be..
I don't think she sounds underweight, if she's eating fine then I wouldn't worry about that personally. So much is put on about healthy weights etc however all children develop at different times. Xx

Someone once thought my then 13 year old was 8. At 14 she was still very short and completely undeveloped. She then had a huge growth spurt and her periods started when she was 15.

Apparently she was the last in her class and the only girl who never had to miss school swimming lessons!
