How much pocket money do you give your 13yr old?

Just that really. How much do you give as pocket money, if any, do you give. My DD is actually nearly 14, but DS is almost 13. They haven’t been getting any pocket money but I’ve been thinking now might be the time to start a small regular amount. But what is reasonable given it’s really just for nonsense?

13 yo gets £20 a month. Was previously £10 cash and £10 straight into bank account but now whole £20 goes into bank so she can use debit card to pay for stuff. I still buy any essential clothes etc but she buys any extras and rest goes mostly on snacks and drinks when she meets friends

£30. Meant to include going out but doesn’t cover food.

£35 a month, needs to cover christmas/birthday presents for us and other family members, his Roblox subscription thing, anything else he wants. He doesn't get money from anyone else

£20 every four weeks because DH and I are paid every 4 weeks.

DD has a debit card account so we put a tenner in by standing order on payday.

I have been trying to persuade my DD to open a bank account with a card, not only because we could pay into it but it would certainly be handy. You have firmed my resolve!

£40 a week. I pay for mobile phone, clothes, lunch money etc. They usually save up there money for Christmas presents etc. Currently saving for a new computer

14 year old gets £20 a month and has since starting secondary school and getting a debit card. He only buys food and occasional computer games so doesn't spend it all.

DD(13) gets £5/week paid into her bank account. She has a debit card, but doesn't use it. She has a phone app (Nationwide) to pay us back when we subbed her in pre-Covid days.

I keep meaning to march her down to a local shop to input her pin into a card reader so she can do contactless. Most places round here are cash-free these days....

Thanks all. I will still pay for the phone and clothes etc but I wasn’t sure what was reasonable so thanks for giving me an idea. I’m just really conscious that at some point they need to learn to budget and with them being so close in age I’m going to do it twice in quick succession

Nothing much at the moment as we're not going anywhere or doing anything! As a family we're trying to live fairly frugally and cut back on unnecessary spending. That said, DC aren't really going short of anything either.

In normal times £10/week which covers cinema with friends, treats if they go to the shops, bits from Amazon and saving towards extra games subscriptions and branded sports kit etc.

I also pay £10/month for mobile phone.

Apart from Christmas and birthdays they don't get any other money.

I give him 5 pounds. Enough for Phil, who always begs on the street across from our house. Enough to feed him. Very good money

But it is just for nonsense. Everything else, we pay for. Before you decide an amount, you decide exactly what is included.

IMO you've left it much too late. I gave her pocket money as soon as she wouldn't eat it. It's taught her a lot of skills.

13 yo daughter £5 a week

My kids get half their age so 13yo gets £6.50 pw. I pay for their phones, give them money for clothes and trips out (cinema etc).

Their pocket money is so they can go into town with their friends and get a milkshake etc without always asking for cash.

Meant to say, both of mine have current and savings accounts, and a debit card. It makes paying pocket money so much easier!

£20 a month for a 13y old. £60 a month for a 15y old because he's commuting to do his hobbies 3 times a week so it's for transport and snacks. When in lockdown he wasn't able to do his hobbies it went back to my 'base rate' of £20. So yes, the amount depends on what expenses they're expected to cover.
