DS 16 Gear for smoking weed in bag but never smells

Exactly that DS 16 a good lad in general and I’d say a typical teen stays up late now they’re not in school and gets up late goes out with friends (they’re a nice bunch in the main ) to local park area - big group of them. I know he drinks beer sometimes and I don’t have a problem with that as it’s infrequent and I’d rather we kept communication channels open so not going to kick up a fuss about this. But today I looked in his bag he takes out with him and he has you tobacco. (Unopened) Rizlas and filters - all looking pretty much untouched. I always see him when he comes in and he never smells of smoke or grass. Don’t know how to broach these findings with him. He’s a nice lad and only just found his feet with this group of friends and sometimes lacks confidence so don’t want to over react. Prior to going out with friends he just stayed in his room gaming all day Any idea how to bring this up ?

Sounds like he's trying to fit into the group by carrying stuff rather than actually using it. If he was smoking weed he wouldn't be using filters.

As per what my stoner of an ex told me anyways. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly!

I'd link him to websites with factual information about taking drugs and let him make his own mind up. He seems like a sensible kid though so I'm sure you've not got much to worry about

cleowasmycat · 05/08/2020 23:41

Why assume weed? More likely just normal smoking. Roll ups cheaper.

Overthehilltoday · 05/08/2020 23:50

Cleowasmycat he has told me in the past that he tried a cigarette and Hated it but has in the past says he’s tried a joint and quite like it . Just thought it was just a puff from someone else’s though not that he was getting it . Years ago I Smoked and always thought none could smell it but you can smell smoke really easily on people’s clothes and body. He didn’t hide the bag he left it on the sofa - which is a bit weird and stupid. I don’t want to over react but equally don’t want he thinking it’s ok !

Ask him. Treat him as a 16 year old and ask him why?

Overthehilltoday · 05/08/2020 23:53

Pieceofpurplesky yes think I will but not sure what I’ll say of her says yeah I’m smoking ! Hoping he’s looking after it ! For someone else

I have a 16 year old too. Be open - don't alienate him! That's my tactic

Gingerkittykat · 06/08/2020 04:13

Looking after it for someone else and easily led, so naive!

Why were you looking in his bag anyway?

If there is no cannabis and just tobacco there is a high chance that that is all he would be smoking.

just ask him what's going on!

Catsup · 06/08/2020 04:26

Far more likely to have had the tobacco pack/filter box open with a baggie/tin foil in, with/or previously containing weed if he's smoking it. Also the bag would reek if he's had weed in there at some point. Rollies are the current fad for young smokers vs the old 'pack of 10'. He might not be smoking, or just having the odd one to keep in with the crowd if they do. I'd probably look for more signs vs raising the 'so I looked in your bag' convo! As he's highly unlikely to admit to anything more than he has to, and will probably take the 'I'm upset you looked in my bag!' stance.

Overthehilltoday · 06/08/2020 07:10

Thanks everyone, going to say nothing for now I think. He literally just left his bag on the sofa so no real snooping required

You will absolutely know by the smell if he has weed. It's very hard to hide.

I do know people who smoke weed with filters, though it is far less common (all the people I know who do are over 50). I would assume this is just roll ups and that he's trying to smoke them to fit in.

Zippy1510 · 06/08/2020 07:20

What size papers does he have? You would expect him to have the larger ones if he’s smoking weed and he wouldn’t be using filters.

Overthehilltoday · 06/08/2020 07:29

Small green rizlas

The tobacco is unopened - seems there may be a couple of loose strands of grass in the bag but either very old or not very good as no real smell !

If there's no grinder or weed smell and he is using filters, that suggests roll up cigarettes rather than joints. Unless he is using resin, it doesn't smell strong.

Overthehilltoday · 06/08/2020 07:50

Actually just has smell of his bag and dh looked at the strands and they’re just tobacco. He’s in a good place with confidence do going to leave it for the moment
Thks everyone for your advice

You dont use filters when smoking weed so maybe just roll ups. Is there a grinder? And are the rizzlas long ones

shas19 · 06/08/2020 20:52

Just see small green ones. Not weed hes smoking

FifteenToes · 09/08/2020 02:15

When I were a young'un joints were made by sticking two small rizlas perpendicular to each other to make one big one with a fat end, so I don't think the rizla size is necessarily relevant.

I don't know whether that's still a thing or whether all these mollycoddled millenium snowflakes have lost their initiative by not having to learn how to roll a proper joint. Kids today, eh?

DameHannahRelf · 09/08/2020 02:33

Does he look older, and has bought the stuff for a friend or girlfriend, but hasn't passed it on yet? Did the skins look used or were the filters open/any missing?

Is the backing strip (green or white bit of thin card inside the skins, at the back) missing, or any strips torn of the cardboard flap? Or of the filter pack? If not I'd assume the stuff is just for normal roll ups.

If he was smoking you'd probably smell it, unless he's trying really hard to mask it. Has he been washing his clothes more often, or taking showers as soon as he gets home? Using more bodyspray or fabreeze? Does he have any yellowing around any of his first three fingers (on either hand?).

Was there a lighter or matches?

year5teacher · 09/08/2020 12:09

If it’s small rizla and filters he’s just smoking roll ups. Not good for his health but I’m sure he knows that. Nothing suggests he’s smoking weed - but also if he smokes outside the smell probably won’t linger

LunaRabbit · 01/09/2020 04:01

I'd still have a conversation with him. Smoking anything isn't okay.

Bobbiepin · 01/09/2020 04:10

Small green rizla come with most tobacco pouches. The first one is marked so check to see if any have actually been used.
