18 year old DS2 booked to go to Tenerife

Help! My DS is booked to go to Tenerife for 1 week in an All inclusive with 9 of his friends at the end of July , would you let him go if you were me ,,?

I get your worries, I have similar aged DCs. However, if he's paid for it, there isn't much you can do. You can't 'not allow' him to go at 18.

Will the clubs etc be open though as normal, I doubt it somehow.

If it goes ahead there's not much you can do. I feel sorry for them at that age, a socially distances Strip really isn't the same!

Well at 18 there isn’t much you can do to stop him.

He may struggle to get travel insurance though and has he checked out what restrictions are in place for people arriving there?

He is an adult,how /why would you stop him.

Thanks for your posts, I’m glad you’ve said that , I actually was happy for him to go , but I met with a couple of friends this morning that were horrified i was letting him go,,, ! Their concern was if there is a second wave ,,,

Check first if the hotel is providing all inc at the moment, so many restrictions in place. It won’t be the carefree holiday that they are expecting.they may have the option to change the date. I am mum to 19 & 17 DS, I know exactly how you feel. I wouldn’t want them travelling at the moment either

Tell him and his friends not to fuck with the Spanish police. Rules are rules here. They will find themselves with heavy fines or worse if they contravene them. Spanish people are very scared about visitors from the U.K. arriving after the air bridge opens.

Your DS and his friends should also start booking their places on the beach asap. As previous posters have said, contact the hotel to find out which restrictions, etc. will apply.

Good idea about booking places etc. they are booked on a package deal with JET 2 so am hoping they will give some advice too ,,,?

Covid is a minor risk at his age.

It will be a safer holiday than normal I suspect for that age group, with less of the partying that normally goes on but they'll still be able to have a great time.

I'm not on Tenerife but very close.

He's not going to find much when he arrives –bars and restaurants are largely closed except for the odd few (a lot can't afford to open) and tourist areas are eerily empty.

If he and his friends want to go hiking and exploring the countryside they'll have a great time, but your standard holiday is not going to look anything like a standard holiday here at the moment.

Yes , apparently he will need to quarantine 2 weeks .

I think he and his friends just want to get away for a week in the sun - he says they don’t mind if they have to stay in the hotel ,,,, (although not sure about this in practice ). They’ve had this hol booked since before Christmas and I know they were keen to get booked in to the water parks , but I assume they will be closed too ,,,,

The main issue for me is if his return flight got cancelled and he couldn't travel or got identified as track and trace and was forced to quarantine there and couldn't get a flight home so had to pay for a new one.

Make sure that he needs to get some sort of insurance and he's on his own for extra costs.

As others have said you can't stop him but you can make sure he has insurance. If I were you I would make him isolate for 2 weeks after his return.

Well if he is ready for the quarantine when they return he has to stick to it, I don't think I'd fancy it just yet .

Hotels that are open are limiting the amount of people around the poolside, wear a facemask etc. Speak to the hotel direct, do not rely on the travel agent.

Isn't travel insurance invalid for anything related to COVID, while it's classes as a pandemic?
