What did you give your dc for their 18th? Need ideas!

DD turns 18 next month, and I'm struggling for ideas.

She's just finishing A levels, but not planning to go to uni in the short term & intending to take some time out & work, so doesn't need stuff for going away. She's worked all the last summers so bought herself good computer & phone. I've suggested driving lessons but she's not keen at all. She's also pretty environmenally/ anti-consumerist minded. All of which is good - but makes present buying hard!

Recent successes over the last 2-3 years have been DMs, a London trip including Hamilton tickets, and a denim jacket last Christmas. I had thought of booking a trip abroad for after her exams, but after the Italian quarantines that doesn't seem like such a great idea. (And TBH I'd like to take her on holiday anyways separate from her 18th, we've not been abroad since she was 10, and shes a really good hardworking kid)

My children aren’t that old, but I’m a believer in “something to keep” my Nan bought me some earrings, I’m sure they were for my 18th, and although I don’t wear them because they aren’t my style they are my most treasured possession. My suggestion would be a locket. That’s what I would have liked and I think it’s what I’d buy my girls.

Sorry I’ve just seen that your dd doesn’t wear jewellery so ignore my completely unhelpful post!!

@Sadik I’ve just spent an hour looking at the Scaramanga web site, their goods are fab. I bought DS1 a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses - he chose them. DS2 was 18 a couple of months-ago he’s having money for a boys holiday

Ours turns 18 next week.

We have a bond for him which has matured, so he's in for a nice nest egg. Enough to buy and insure a car with some left over.

Also - a table tennis table!

DD is 18 this week and we’ve bought her a Clogau bracelet. A keepsake really but if she wants to wear it, fine, if not, well more of an investment. She is looking for a job so no real need for a laptop, already bought a car and driving lessons and ill pay for her driving test next month.

We’ll go out as a family to a local pub over the weekend for a nice meal.

I’d definitely go with an experience. I got a watch for my 18th and it really wasn’t what I’d have chosen and I remember being very disappointed with it. I think my parents were obviously thinking along the lines of something to keep but it really wasn’t an exciting present for 18 year old me
