books for teen boys

my DS has gone from an avid reader-philip pullman etc to barely nothing-except sports biographies. what adult books could anyone recommend?-hes 14

Face by Benjamin Zephaniah (not an adult book but good for teenage lads esp)
Lord of the Flies maybe?

But I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to just read sports biogs at this stage - as long as he's reading. When he does his GCSEs he'll be reading a fair bit of fiction. The fact that he's reading for pleasure will help his reading skills anyway.

he has read curious incident etc and out grown a lot of teen stuff

he read some short stories by hanif and loved them and i have just bought buddha of suburbia for 11th birthday

any other suggestions? Mine loves reading but insists on re-reading all the Harry Potter books - must have read them all about 30 times, so keen to get some books out the library on his behalf....

Try the Cherub books by Robert Muchamore. My 13 yr old ds loves them

very gritty, exciting books about teenage spies. Quite adult themes.

DS (13) loves the Illmore Chronciles, a trilogy by David Lee Stone.

Try Holes by Louis Sacher, it's great. Also Bali Rai is popular with teenage boys, all colloquial language and social problems but they like it. 'Dominoes' is short stories so doesn't seem like such a commitment. He might like 'Of Mice and Men' or 'Lord of the Flies' but will almost certainly have to read one of these for GCSE Literature. 'Catcher in the Rye' or 'The Outsiders' are both a bit dated but still draw kids in.

Terry Pratchett - all of them; Ben Elton - if he likes Big Brother start with Dead Famous otherwise Stark; fantasy books - the Magician series are good as is Earthsea. If he won't read them you may enjoy them all!

My 20 yr old son (who endorses my earlier suggestions) also adds: Michael Crichton - especially Timeline!

the Long Walk - it is a WW2 biography of a polish officer who was held as slave labour in Siberia, escaped and lived to tell the tale.

also recommend Barefoot Soldier - biography of Johnson Beharry, the latest Victoria Cross winner.
