Pocket money for teenagers

Been abroad for a long time and not sure how this works here. If your teens don't have paid work do you give them pocket money and how much?

This is asked a lot on MN.
The answers vary hugely, with some dc not getting any, but then having handouts left right and centre; some getting a small amount; some getting a massive amount; some being expected to manage an 'allowance' - so getting a larger amount but buying toiletries and clothes as well.

It also is a completely different kettle of fish if you are talking about a 13 yr old or an 18 yr old.
I never paid my dcs' phone contracts, which most posters who reply seem to.

I gave mine, the age they were, in £s, per month - so my £18 yr old (who is still in school) gets £18 a month from me.
All my dc have chosen to work as well as study (which I think is a good thing, but some posters don't like the idea of)
