Hi,
I have a 14 year old son and soon we will be moving to a new house. This is the first time he has ever had to move.
He really wants the day off school when we move, he said that he won't get in the way and he will pull his weight.
He is quite sentimental and doesnt want to move house as the house we are currently in he has grown up in.
What do I do? Keep him off or send him to school?
Thanks!

I completely understand him.
Absolutely keep him with you on that day. Let him say his goodbyes to the house.

It will be unauthorised, obviously, unless you pretend he’s unwell.

I sent mine to school, they were a bit younger

We were sent to school, then walked home to our new place on our own for the first time. I'd been driven to school until that point as we were moving towns and I'd been enrolled in the new high school in the new town in readiness.

I remember it being exciting. And school kept our minds off moving. I'd be worried that my DC would be sentimental, but at the same time, it would be a good way for them to say goodbye to the new house as I didn't have the chance to do that.

Ring in sick for him

Just make up an illness, it will be an exciting day, and he may have worries or excitement that would get in the way of schools anyway.
