tracking apps

Do lots of parents use tracking apps for their children??? My brother in law is in the police force and has always warned us against the dangers of tracking apps as they carry too much of your personal information if you lose your phone or it gets stolen your address can be found. However my son forgot to text me when he got to school last week and if I had a tracker I would have been able to see he had arrrived. I have just set one up on all 3 phones for this one reason but it does scare me how much personal information can be seen. I have used life360. Also how much data do they use as we all have very cheap contracts with not an awful lot of data. Very new to all this and not very technology savvy here. Thank you

Kids don't like being tracked. They'll find it harder to make friends. My DS got refused by a bunch of friend groups bc they said they didn't want me as a 'wire' to everything they did.

After this husband and I had a reconsideration and we decided to not track our kids bc although we know sometimes it's not safe out there, as long as they answer calls and stay out of trouble we know they're safe. It is not nice making them feel like they're on a police curfew even when they have done nothing wrong. Waste of money and privacy hole too! If a hacker got into your account they could see where everyone is and send god knows who!

I don't think teenagers should be tracked either. What is the world coming to? What ever happened to trust and grounding them if they didn't come home at the time you said etc. Like someone previously said we didn't have all this back in the days so why is it getting so extreme now?
