13 year old watching sex education on Netflix

My 13 year old niece has been sex education on Netflix, how suitable /unsuitable is it to watch for someone of her age and should I be having the conversation with her about what is suitable to watch

Are you her parent? If niece doesn't have a Netflix account with parental guidance then I'm assuming that her parents don't mind her watching material with an older certificate.

That should be the parents job. Speak to the parents.

I haven’t seen sex education, but looks like a teen comedy. Ah no worries, erm I’m at Portlethen now, but if you don’t need me I can take a day off in town...

Is it at your house? It is rated 18, don't know if other poster is aware of this having watch the whole serious there is absolutely no way I would let a 13 year old watch this show.

I'd be fine with a 13 year old watching that to be honest.

It's my partners account she uses cause her parents are too cheap to pay for it, so we keep an eye on what she's watching

It's not got much in it other than frank conversations about sex and relationships. If she's an aware 13 year old I don't think I'd object.

Netflicks here (I'm not UK) had it as a 16.
I think it's adult for a reason, but if Mum knows and has ok'd it.....
It probably does bring up some questions that need adult answers (we've have impotant teens, putting condoms on plastic models, labling bits, viagra, male mastabation and doggy style sex and I switched off the first episode before DS(7) got home.....

If it wasn't quite so sexually explicit I would say it would be great for 13+ - very good messages about sex and relationships.
However there are some full on scenes and so I would say 15+ is more suitable

If she is borrowing an account t you can set up a separate user for her and restrict the content to age appropriate only

I would have a conversation with her parents about it and say you don't want to be responsible for monitoring what she's watching.

I'd feel very uncomfortable with the whole set up.

Lots of sex scenes, topless girls. See a man’s large penis from behind (between his legs) lots of masturbation.

Overall though I think it’s actually quite a positive programme in terms of the messages it gives.

It's quite graphic. I wouldn't have let my DC watch at 13. It does give some good messages around different relationships / issues - I would say another couple of years.

Sit and watch an episode with her. If she is okay watching it with an adult then she is probably mature enough.
