Two dteen boys, aged 18 and 16.
Working out a budget for next year and cost of clothing.

How much do you spend on your teenagers clothes over the course of a year / month?

I'm budgeting 150 a month. Too much? Too little?

My initial reaction was that that seems quite a lot but, given that there are two of them, and by the time you factor in shoes, that's probably quite realistic. But it depends how interested in clothes and prone to nagging your boys are!

They dont nag much at all Pip, theryre really gracious. We had a tight budget year last year...theyre clothes ran right down. Only having a couple of pairs of bottoms and a handful of cheap tops. I felt so guilty.

Now I want them to build their clothes back up. They are in mens clothing sizes and shoes are not cheap.

Because ive got mums guilt and also aware ive been hard budgeting, im cautious that 150 a month is either too much or too little.

Anything I dont spend will roll over to next month and so on.

I think that's a good budget. Depending on how financially savvy they are, you could give this to them and they can shop for their own clothes - taking advantage of any deals etc.

Thanks Pickle, great idea!
itll be a good way to teach them to be a bit more money savvier! :D Especially before eldest goes to uni. I'll monitor it for first 2/3 month to make sure theyre on the right track.

They both want to go to uni and im worried i havent taught them enough about being money savvy. This will be a great shoe in the door.

We give our 15 year olds £30/month each - they don't have to get school clothing requirements with that. I expect we probably spend maybe £20 each extra

Perfectly1mperfect · 21/12/2018 19:49

What do they like to wear and wear do they shop ?

Perfectly1mperfect · 21/12/2018 22:06

Second wear should be where...lol

WheelyCoteClaus · 22/12/2018 08:20

It's your usual jeans, tops type wear and casual shoes too

Shops so far are Asos, next, topman, superdry, h&m.
They like brand name shoes (60-80 quid)

Last year we did the primark, supermarket, new look with occasional Next and that was occasionally. I found it to be a false economy
A couple of things lasted but most didn't. The items from Next lasted and odd bit from Tesco clothing.
