Single bed or double bed

Can somebody please tell me why they bought a double/queen bed for their kids? My kids have single beds, but all their friends seem to have double beds. I’m just curious.

I was looking to the future, when they move out and I then have a guest bed Grin

However, they also give them more space to 'starfish' in, once they get to an age where they don't need the floorspace for toys.

I've not specifically gone out and bought them though, just when the bed needed replacing anyway.

Because their rooms are big enough for a double. Because when they are grown, they might want to bring a partner home. Because it's lovely to have the space to move around - I'm a single parent and I have a double all to myself. Our spare room also has a double.

Why wouldn't you have a double?

My 14 year old has a small double, she is the same height as me and on the occasion I end up in a single on a business trip I hate it so uncomfortable for space. You’ll get people who disagree as there was a similar post recently.
