One meal in 24 hours? Worried

My dsd 15 has always been a bit of a fussy eater but recently her eating habits seem to have changed. She often refuses breakfast so we started doing a kind of brunch for her (around 11) which worked for a while and helped her last until dinner time. However when she had this brunch she would often not finish her dinner. In the end we were actively having to say e.g...3 more bits of broccoli and a potato and you can go. We tried changing portion sizes and got her involved in cooking and shopping for food she likes which worked well for a while. Until she started to refuse lunch and breakfast (she's not even snacking in the day) and said she only wanted dinner. One meal in 24 hours is surely not enough? We try and give her a good meal for dinner but even now it's an effort to get her to eat one whole dinner. I don't think it's an eating disorder as such as she will happily eat crisps and sweets and dunkers (junk)all day every day when she stays at nans but am completely stumped what to do. We've talked about the effects it could have on her body and how it could make her I'll and she doesn't seem bothered. Could there be something that's causing her loss of appetite? She is otherwise happy and chilled it's just the food thing!

If she is otherwise chilled then maybe it’s not a problem as she is filling up on sweets etc? I know I was like this as a teen, my mum was worried but really I was just eating lots of sweets.

That's the thing though, she's not filling up on anything else. Occasionally she might come down for a packet of crisps but will always be at 8 at night. The snacking is only when she is at her nans (so over summer break she went and stayed for a week and nan gave her whatever she wanted ...which was mainly sweets and chocolate lol) I know I could put a bag of malteasers up in her room right now and she won't touch them. She's going 24 hours between meals 😔

It sounds a bit extreme. Is she lethargic? Has she lost weight?

BrazzleDazzleDay · 02/09/2018 20:06

I don't think it's extreme but at nearly 32 I've only had one meal a day as long as I can remember. Breakfast makes me sick, if I eat lunch I wont eat dinner which is usually the best balanced meal so makes sense to me.

Only as lethargic as a teen usually is. Her behaviour in itself hasn't changed just her eating. No weight loss at all.

Aww that's good to know. She does get a nutritious dinner so maybe worrying a bit too much. How do you do it? I'm always so hungry lol.
