Recommendations for style of glasses for 14 year old DS

Hi - I'd be so grateful for some recommendations for glasses frames for my 14 year old. He is going through a very self-conscious phase so hates the 'fuss' of picking new glasses, and thinks he 'looks stupid' in everything. I know having your mum hovering, suggesting frames makes it worse, so have tried standing to one side pretending to look at my phone but it is soooooooo painful, bless him.

He needs some new frames, and doesn't know what he wants. Have tried googling, but slightly overwhelmed. What's in vogue? Round frames? Chunky plastic or think metal? Any tips gratefully received...

Our optician (local independent) has someone who is the expert for the specs, does the fittings etc. He is also very good at picking out styles to suit particular people, so maybe just go and look at some and get the staff to help make suggestions and give feedback? It's often easier if it's not your parent! (Just picked up some great glasses for my 13 year old daughter today!)

P. S. I wouldn't go for what's "in vogue", choose the shape which suits your face and go from there.

Raybans frames are quite cool for teens

Four of us with glasses in my family including two teenagers. We mostly ask the specialist in store to pick for us and then choose the one we like best from their selection. I went in with both dd and ds quite recently and while they were interested in my opinion (and my cheque book!) they made the call. ds chose a pair that I think of as John Lennon style which suits his long haired student style.

I would ask your ds to look online and tell him when he finds something he thinks is in the right ball park to take a picture into the optician and ask them what they have in a similar style. Leave it to him as much as possible so you are only involved when he's narrowed it down to a few possibilities.

My 14yo wears gold aviators. A unisex frame. They were all the fad six months after she got hers.
