Eldest DC, my teenage angst

Hi

My eldest DC is 17. She is a lovely, kind, beautiful well behaved girl. She is sometimes too nice and unassuming which is a lovely part of her personality but it also make me me want to shake her and tell her to get with it.
I'm really struggling with letting her go because I worry that she won't watch out for herself. I am trying hard to back off and encourage her to be independent especially as she will be off to uni.
A massive thing is me worrying about her getting home safely at night. I literally set an alarm to go off every 30 mins so I can check if she's home. I can't stop myself. A friend said that worrying about what could be is unhelpful as you can't prevent things happening, we have to deal with anything afterwards which made sense.
Can any experienced mums of teenagers advise me or let me know how they coped? Think these teenage years are harder than the younger years.

How does she usually get home? Does she drive? Walking? Cab?

Bus & walking. If she is with a group of friends there comes a point when they all have to splinter off to go to their own homes.
