Teen ranges for gangly, beanpole boys?

MN just ate my long, polite post so apols for the short, to the point version.

DS has outgrown all the usual kids ranges. He’s tall and skinny. Small mens trousers etc won’t stay up - too slim, no hips or bum. Aside from H&M, what are our options?

Thanks in advance. Smile

Zara menswear starts at a 72cm waist and they offer a free hemming service - is that still too big for your DS?

Topman starts at a 66cm waist which might be more appropriate teen-wise.

I see you say adult men's trousers are too big, but Zara and Topman are the slimmest cut for men I think. My beanpole brother used to shop only at H&M and Topman when he was a teen, also Abercrombie/Jack Wills type places. Boden also goes up to 16 years old but you may have already tried that.

Ooh good info. My son has reached 14 and finding clothes is a bloody nightmare. Especially since he is so damn picky.

Mabelface · 30/06/2018 10:36

Top man, new look and Primark are good for skinny boys.

boatyardblues · 30/06/2018 10:37

Thanks Xiao. Your precision waist measurements are especially helpful - I will corner him with a tape measure later, as we have most of those stores nearby.

II feel your pain. Ds is 6’ 4” and very slim also. I can recommend ASOS especially for trousers and jeans because they do a tall range. With the trousers you can select waist and length sizes.

Even managed grey trousers for school from there and more recently a suit.

Primark

I discovered earlier that Peacocks go up to age 13/14. There’s a 20% off deal running this weekend too. 👍

My teenage beanpoles always found jeans in Zara. It's good for that gangly stage.

boatyardblues · 30/06/2018 15:17

Will definitely be checking out Zara tomorrow. Thanks all.

River island also good.

boatyardblues · 30/06/2018 16:16

It is greatly reassuring that we have options. A lot of the named stores aren’t ones we frequent, so I am pleased to have new places to try as we hit this new, exciting phase of parenting. Grin Almost makes me nostalgic for the days when we could stuff him in a babygro and job done. Give it another year or two & I’ll probably be back on here asking about specialist large shoe purveyors.

Primark men's start at an XS. The skinny jeans were well suited to my skinny boy!

GarciaFlynn · 30/06/2018 17:45

I have a 6'4" DS. Size 11 feet so fortunately just within normal size ranges.
Black socks with black trousers are his staple.
Look for floor sweepers in the clearance section of TKMaxx.
ASOS do an extra long range.

You don't say how old he is but if he's had a recent growth spurt do check his shoes, and don't replace everything as he may need more next week Grin. DS1 went up 4 sizes in 3 months in Year 6.

Shock oh em gee!

DS is 13 (just recently) but rocketing through trousers & outgrowing shoes every few months. We have the sense this is the start of a rapid growth spurt. I swear he looks taller every morning at the moment.

Success in Topman! Thank you everyone who suggested alternative stores.
