DD too obsessed with a TV show?

My DD is 17 and has been completely obsessed with the TV show Criminal Minds for three years. She has the DVD box set and will watch the entire series on a continuous loop. She knows every line and can match a picture to the exact episode (she knows them all by name).

It seems petty to take her laptop away and ban her from the TV as she is an excellent student and this doesn't get in the way of her studies, part-time job or social life. I just don't think it's normal or healthy (and I'm sick of seeing and hearing about it!).

Am I overthinking this? What to do?

My DD2 was obsessed with Friends at that age. She can watch it with the sound off and know what they are saying. She is 20 now and still turns to it as her comfort TV. She is also a smart young woman who is at uni. It hasn't done her any harm. Leave your DD to her programme!

This kind of focussing on a familiar show or book can be a very useful de-stressing technique, might be relevant at her stage of life. Can't remember how many times we watched David Suchet's Poirot when dd was bad with her anxiety.

My own at that age was Italian opera on vinyls. I haven't seen or listened to one for years but I could still recall the best part of the score to Boheme and Turandot.
