I wonder if anyone can help me out here. I'm shopping for a mid sleeper (like a cabin bed but not very high, as we have a low ceiling) for my 7 year old son's new - and very small - bedroom. We live in a great area but there are only two bedrooms in the house, so he will never be able to graduate to a proper big bed on the floor before uni, as he will always need the high clearance underneath to make the room habitable.

So far I have been unable to work out whether any of the beds I've been looking at are suitable for a teen of, say, 10 or 11 stone. The John Lewis Stompa Uno says max 68kg, which must be about 9 stone something. Anyone have kids over the age of 10 sleeping in these beds? And any recommendations when I'm buying them? (I dismissed one outright because the pine frame seemed too weak; and one is made of sturdy hardwood, but is about 20cm narrower for the mattress than some others).

Flexa or ikea?

I tried Ikea but their only cabin bed was the one with the weak pine frame I mentioned! Is Flexa stronger?

Ds has the big ikea one and it can take an adult. I have slept in there with him as well.

This one:

Ikea have specified max weight of 220lb which is 15 stone

Dd is 14 and in a metal high sleeper from Argos. It takes her weight but she complains about banging her head.

Flexa is tested to 100kg
