Shared parental care for Teenagers

my dh and I are about to separate. our kids are teenagers, and we have all agreed they will split their time 50:50 between us. To start out they will spend 4 days with one then four days with the other of us. we will be living in the same area so they will still be able to see their mates whichever of us they are with, and may be able to walk from one house to the other.

Comments, advice, experiences, hints and tips please. We have no idea whether this is really going to work or not or what to look out for.

A close family member has the same arrangement, although they separated when the children were a bit younger (but are teenagers now). The children did, and still do, a week with each parent, and it works brilliantly. As they are older, they obviously get to chop and change arrangements, and the parents are OK with this.

The ex-couple made sure that everything was very amicable between them (to the extent that everyone thought they should stay together!)

Only hiccups were that the children never really knew which house to call "home" in conversation - they would say "dad's house" or "mum's house" but they certainly regarded both houses as their homes.
