Good day to everyone

Seeking advice from lovely mumsnet- our DD is 17 and at 6th form college, also enrolled to do Duke of Edinburgh and currently awaiting confirmation of voluntary work, (Also trying to get her to find paid work), however we seem to be constantly handing out money to her, and have limited income, so we have thought give a monthly allowance, we pay for her phone, driving lessons and we buy toiletries in weekly shop so we were thinking around £80 per month? we put this to her and response was what? is that all? umm.. well if you need more you will need to find P/T work. Any comments or how yourselves managed with allowances for your teens would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you in advance of your responses. Xx

At 17 my daughter was doing A levels at sixth form, she got £10 per week ema and cleaned at a car dealership every evening after school and at weekends. Before this she worked at a local hotel at the weekend. We rarely gave her cash but did pay her phone contract and bought some clothes.
My son at this age had a paper round and was doing forestry at an agricultural college. He got regular work with a local arborist when he had gained his chainsaw qualifications and registered himself as self employed. This enabled him to gain further work although he relied on us to ferry him round until he passed his driving test (we paid for lessons) at 18. We also paid for his phone and some clothes.
My daughter learned to drive at 22 after uni, and we used my son's family allowance to pay for her lessons!

Hi
I'm so thankful for all information everyone has taken time to write. We are off to bank on Saturday and as from our next pay date £80 and any more she will have to do chores along with getting work. Xx

Well bank account open,No money yet until my pay day. Had a huge argument🙄on way home about necessary toiletries and not,as I buy toiletries from Aldi and Dd doesn't like them,I stated as we are on a budget and try ing to save if you don't like it buy other with your allowance. Let me just say she is now being selfish so and so and I have told her so which resulted in her hurling nastiness at me,so as to whether she get a allowance this month is to be decided🤔 full of upset, confusion and obviously I'm a demon mother her words😶🙄x

DS is 18 and we pay for clothes, travel, driving lessons, sim contract, plus £50 a month allowance. He has an occasional part time job (once every couple of months) which pays about £15 an hour. However, he really doesn't have time on top of studying to get a part time job, he works extremely hard at college, helps around the house and is generally lovely. Not sure I'd be so generous if he wasn't!
