DS wants to have some golf clubs

DH know nothing about GOLF

We thought about getting him a WOOD and an IRON

If that is what they are called

What numbers would you buy?

He won't be playing at a course it is just for hitting in the field at bottom of garden.

Actually we have seen sets for sale so may get him a set

How do you decide on sizes?

It is for his birthday so we can't take him with us.

My DH and both ds's play.I would go to the local pro shop or even JJB and speak to the pro there.A junior set eg couple of irons a driver and a putter won't be too expensive.
How old is he?

RTKangaMummy · 28/04/2007 10:50

He will be 12

Which numbers do we choose?

Definitely discuss it with the pro. He won't need a full set - or even a half set - to begin with. Buy that when he is full height and more experienced.

My ds is 6 and he plays golf (but so does dh).
He started off with a driver and an iron (a 7 I think) cos didn't want to buy him a full set in case he didn't like it, but the 2 original clubs cost nearly as much as the set we bought him for christmas so you might find getting him a half set cheaper. If you go to a local sports shop they should be able to advise you (the sets often come aged eg 5-6, 7-9, 9-12)
My ds started off having lessons at a local driving range (only costs £3 for an hour as it is a group lesson) so it may be a good idea to think about this as if he does it by himself he may pick up 'bad habits' and it will then be harder for a pro to get him to do it the correct way IYSWIM. Ds has a much better swing than dh!
