Age to leave teenager at home

Just a quick question about leaving a nearly teen and pre-teen alone at home in the morning. I am a lone parent and all my friends have younger children so hard to gauge what I feel is right

My children are nearly 13 and 11 (year 6). I have a job about 10 mins from home where I cours pick up extra early shifts from 7am-3pm. I would need to leave Home at 6.40am I guess? Both children get up easily and have alarms etc. and I would consider sensible.

What age would you feel comfortable leaving them at that time on a school day?

I think September when they are both at the same school sounds ideal.

I would have done without any question, but my house is two minutes from school, not even a road to cross and my parents lives two streets away. Both were responsible and sensible.

No black and white answer here.

At this age I'd say it's fine.

I would as long as it’s 13 year old DD who has the job to lock up.
My DSs were 14 before having a key. The first time my eldest DS did it I was coming home 10 min later and found the door wide open! Aargh. Not a good start.
So - I was a tad shouty, and from then on he’s managed to concentrate enough to lock the door Smile

Thank you for the additional comments - lots to ponder on Smile
