Drugs

I've just found a full box full of cream chargers, more commonly known as balloons in my daughter's bedroom.
She's at college so I haven't confronted her yet.
I just want to arm my self with a few facts before I do.
Is this just basically solvent abuse?
Can it it kill instantly like solvents?
Is there any research in to long term affects?
I work with a few student's and I know the attitude to these balloons is quite blarzae and they seem to think it's not real drugs.
I don't buy that drugs are drugs to me.
So has anyone got any more insight to these "balloons"

Too late then for some as they can't stop

Funnyfarmer · 02/12/2017 10:36

Exactly @Kareninfrance.
I bet that's what every drug addicts throughout the world told themselves. "I'll just stop when it gets too much"

I also dont see why people think it's ok just because it's like gas and air. Heroin is very similar to pethodine, morphine and even codine. Doesn't make any off them ok to use recreationally.
My partner and I have spoken to her. Him more than me. She says there her friends from ages ago. She had completely forgotten they was there.
He believes her. I'm slightly more sceptical.
Usually it's the other way round I'm usually the sucker when it comes to her.
Maybe I'm letting my own experience cloud my judgement. She's never been a good lier.

I also found a condom in the bathroom a few weeks ago. Not been used in the conventional way but was out of the packet and unravelled.
She said she had been using it to put her make-up on Hmm. I believed her at 1st. It is the type of daft stuff she does. She wasn't even wearing any make up. When I pointed out she wasn't wearing any make up she said she just tried it and wiped it off. Following a conversation we had, had that morning it seemed to make sense

Drugs are rife now - have totally messed up my son - gone from a healthy loving intelligent boy to soleone we don't recognise. Unfortunately if you are switched a certain way it changes you. Would never have thought it would go like this - used to trust him completely with everything - been stealing from us - small amounts at a time, birthday money, that kind of thing. So manipulating we believed him until I found the evidence. The support is non existent. Feel like I am on a one woman crusade against drug use!

Funnyfarmer · 04/12/2017 13:30

@Kareninfrance
I'm so sorry to here that. I really feel for you. Flowers
As I said before I've seen the damage myself 1st hand and I know what convincing liars drug users make. They use the fact you love them to manipulate you. A trate they probably never possessed before.
I still don't know whether I believe my dd or not. I just know I'm not taking any chances and I'm treating it very seriously

I know the support is awful too.
My brother as struggled for years.
About a year ago his children was taken away from there mother because she is also a heavy drug user (cannabis) and she was neglectful and violent
They was placed in the care of my brother. Straight away he told ss about his drug problems (amphetamine) and he needed help they asked him to supply a hair sample every month which he did but told them several times he was struggling. He tried to self refer himself to a drug counciler but he couldn't. The doctor just told him there's a waiting list
He just couldn't stay off it. 1st failed hair sample and his dcs was placed into seperate care homes.
Now he feels he has no reason to stay off the drugs with no help or support

When I said it was 'like gas and air', I meant it's literally just the gas. Nitrous oxide. I don't think it's really comparable to hard drugs like heroin.

Sorry to hear about your brother Sad

As a starting point any drugs taken/used in their room on their own, not in a social situation, is not a good sign.

littlenicky61 · 06/12/2017 19:48

While many view them as a safe high there have been 17 deaths over the last few years from people using these. This is mainly down to excessive use leading to asphyxsiation but all react differently so I do worry about the amount of teens regularly using them under the assumption they are perfectly safe .

FluffyWuffy100 · 07/12/2017 22:57

I disagree with all the ‘it’s just a gas that makes you a bit dizzy’ / ‘you just get a head rush for 1 min’.

It is incredibly short acting but it is a very powerful dissociative if done ‘properly’ and if you like being plunged into that with the euphoria then its highly likely you enjoy pills and ket.

There isn’t much know about the long term harm.

However it is very short acting, and if you do from a ballon impossible to overdose or suffocate as you just drop the balloon if you go too deep.

Very dangerous to do straight from a cracker (cold) and very dangerous to do from a mask.

This I do very much agree with, however often other people are an annoyance when trying to do a good balloon if they try to talk to you or touch you or whatever when you’re enjoying the ‘trip’ so I can see the appeal of a ballon in private!

Using these, legal highs or drugs of any form is not something that I would be happy about. No one knows what long term health problems this can cause or if it will lead to trying other drugs that are more addictive. It’s not anything like gas and air you have in hospital because it’s not in a controlled environment. Just because some PPs used this and were ok doesn’t mean that it’s safe for everyone. We all react differently to substances.
