Just wondering what it will be as DD has just got a job there, to go in for induction in a week or so's time and I'm curious.

Was it not only the advert?

ineedamoreadultieradult · 18/11/2017 18:28

Ask your DD?

tissuesosoft · 18/11/2017 18:30

The minimum wage for under 18s is £4.05 per hour

bellalou1234 · 18/11/2017 18:30

Thinks it's low about £4.50 ph, under 18's

tissuesosoft · 18/11/2017 18:30

Sorry, I meant that's the national minimum wage, but I can't see primark paying much above that

chocolatespiders · 18/11/2017 18:37

Blimey seems low. Boots was £7.00 an hour when my 16 year old worked there 4 years ago.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/11/2017 19:26

She hasn't had the induction meeting yet, just the interview and I think it's probably NMW but can't remember what the advert said at the time.

I Wouldn't expect much. Primarily have a bit of a reputation for poor treatment of workers

Fragglewump · 19/11/2017 19:17

My daughter gets minimum wage at Pizza Hut and gets her shifts cancelled all the time. Apparently retail is more stable......

ProseccoMamam · 19/11/2017 19:59

Why do you need to know how much your daughter is earning...........

That’s, rude? It’s her money, presumably going into her bank account.. how strange.

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 19/11/2017 20:02

prosecco perhaps her daughter has asked her mum to find out for her??

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/11/2017 20:07

I don't need to know. As I said in the OP, I am curious. She's also curious so I asked.

Besides, the pocket money I currently pay her also goes into her bank account and if she's going to be paid not much, then I'll continue to give her pocket money. If the pay was more generous then she'd possibly get less as pocket money and I'd put the rest into the account that is saving up towards her 18th/Uni etc.

My 17 year old sixth form daughter works at Wetherspoons and is on £5.25 an hour.
Her friend works at Costa and he's on £7.50 an hour.

kath6144 · 29/11/2017 16:38

Hi Op, my son has had 2 stints there, the first when he was 17.

It is above NMW, I can't remember exactly how much, but less than a £1/hr, so probs about 80-90p an hour.

She will get a Contract to sign, probably at induction, and it will be in that.

She will also get an employment handbook.

That was not my DSs experience. He had a very positive experience, such that he went back earlier this year in his uni town. He gave that up as hours were longer than he could manage doing an almost fulltime science degree, otherwise he would have kept on.

Never had a shift cancelled, never forced to work overtime but could if it suited him and overtime was available.

DD on the other hand has just started an xmas job with a big food retailer. Already been booked on for an overtime shift she knew nothing about until she got a 'why aren't you here' phone call. She was worried, as Contract say they have to do extra shifts at 24hrs notice, if she says no too often it is looked on negatively.

So she booked an extra shift later this week herself, but just had a phone call to say that is cancelled. It is more money, but so far not as positive an experience as DS had at Primark.

I was offered a job there about 10 years ago t and at the time it was minimum wage. Debenhams at the time was much better pay! Things may well have changed though.

campingismyjam17 · 03/12/2017 21:45

My daughter was on a funny amount, I think it was 4.97 an hour and then when she turned 18 it went up to 6.50 HTH.
