14 year old smoking cannabis

My son age 14 has admitted to smoking cannabis frequently over the last couple of months. He is grounded and had his phone confiscated and was upset when we asked him about it but it seems that all of his friends do it. We have asked him to stop once before- clearly that did not work. Does anyone have any advice? Should we stop him seeing his friends? Should we tell the other parents? I can't ground him for the rest of his life and it seems you can by the shite anywhere.
He likes it he says- what do we do? He knows our views and expectations and has boundaries but he doesn't understand why we have an issue with it.
Thanks

no advice but it's really good that he has actually admitted it to you, you must be very reasonable! Smile

The other parents need to knw, if they don't already.

Don't be that mum that grasses on his friends! It will turn around and means he will resent you.... Not ideal! I struggled with this issue with my 13yo DD, with alcohol and cigarettes. Both of which cause millions of deaths each year, whereas marijuana (weed) has no deaths caused by it ever recorded! I know this might not solve your dilemma but maybe it will help somehow

I wild tell other parents. But you cant stop him unless you never let him out again. My DD went through this. I stopped giving her all money but her friends still gave it to her. In the end l gave up trying to stop her she knew my feelings wasn't allowed to smoke in house. To fair at that age cannabis was least of my worries, with her. But now she's going into 3rd year of uni and doing really well although l know for a fact her and her friends still smoke it at weekends mind you they not big drinkers which maybe I some ways I worse l have learnt to let it go.

Thanks to all for advice. Trouble is you see the poor route this could go so it's good to hear happy ending stories. Still not sure what we are going to do - if there is anything

What about all the people murdered by gangland crime lords who make millions every year from selling cannabis?
Using illegal drugs is not a victim less crime.
