How much do u spend on teenagers shoes

DS15 has again outgrown all his shoes which means he could do with new school shoes, trainers, summer pumps, football boots. The football boots he wants are just over £100, the school shoes are £80. Ive set a limit of £50 per pair and said anything over he needs to make up from money he has saved. He thinks that's unfair. Is £50 reasonable for a pair of shoes or am I being mean. I don't spend £50 on my own shoes so seems enough to me.

DD isn't really as interested in school shoes she'll pick £10 new look pumps or loafers. Trainers however are always at least 65-90 , she has had a few JD junior sizes as she's size 5. It might be quite hard to find trainers under 50 in men's size which are branded.

DS has really wide feet (H fitting) which limits the range of shoes that are comfortable, so I have to buy Clarks - he is in men's sizes now and his last pair cost £45 in a sale. He buys whichever football boots are in the Sports Direct clearance that fit him out of his own money usually (last pair were about £25), and had a pair of Adidas Superstars for Christmas which were £70.

I think £50 limit per pair is very fair. I have said that with football boots before.
DS16 needs new trainers and we were thinking of £60 and he pays the rest.

DS1 17 is not interested in shoes, I normally buy him converse which are about £40. DS2 16, is brand obsessed, so combine his purchases with Birthday or Christmas and he puts money he gets towards theme His last pair of trainers cost £120 and football boots were £180!! He's just turned 16 and looking for a PT job to fund his wardrobe!

DSS has very wide feet (and in adult sizes now at nearly 14) so is limited to certain styles. Depending on what footwear it is, I set him a budget and then he has to pay the extra if he wants to spend more - quite good as it really encourages him to find the best deal!

Budget depends on what it is - £40 for school trainers that don't get a lot of use (have to be white, non-marking soles etc),£60 for footie boots which tend to be expensive in the styles that fit him, £50 for out of school trainers.

I think it depends a bit on the child & the shoe.

Ds has small, very narrow feet. His football boots, trainers & Astros (for hockey) are usually around £35-40 from sports direct. School shoes are whateve fits best from a children's shoe shop. He only plays football recreationally & although he's in a hockey club hasn't needed more expensive shoes.

Dd however danced seriously at a high level so I have paid upwards of £45-55 for her dance shoes & more for pointes. As she has very small wide feet I will pay more for school/going out shoes too if they fit her properly.

About £50 for school shoes and then about £60-£80 for sports shoes from a specialist sports shop as Dd does masses of sport and needs decent shoes.

Inthink £50 is a little low. Have you found decent school shoes for that price? I teach secondary and in autumn and winter i often see the children's shoes and ceel so sorry for them. A lot wear cheap shoes that are just so unsuitable for anything other than good, dry weather.

My children's school shoes are £50-£60 and theyve lasted now the full year so far and are still in excellent condition. Theyre infants.

I cant comment on football boots as i know nothng about them.

Hes grown out of them, not trashed them. I would pay for my childs shoes while theyre still in education

I wouldn't pay more than £40/50 a pair and I always buy in a sale so often they are worth more. My teens aren't overly concerned about shoes though, the last request was for Converse oxbow (suede not canvas ones?) which I got for £22 from Schuh 😂 IMO £50 is more than plenty, if they wanted more expensive shoes they'd be expected to wait until Xmas or birthday

£50 on each- school shoes, football boots, astros and trainers. I have paid more for trainers as a treat etc ( good school report etc), he's welcome to put in his own money to get something better

We have a local independent school shoe shop and can get clarks or startrite shoes for £50-£55 in adult sizes, maybe they are cheaper than an actual clarks shop.

Do you have a Nike outlet near you? We have got some great bargains there, trainers and football boots.

Actually, I forgot, I think his last pair of school shoes was about £70, but as they were literally the only ones in the shop that fit his wide feet and didn't look like a pair of grandad shoes we just paid for them.

Thanks there are cheaper trainers and football boots online that are branded but they're not the right ones so that's when I think he should pay the extra himself. Maybe I should pay more for school shoes though

The whole shoe thing for boys is a bit ridiculous in terms of £.

I agree £50-£60 for proper school shoes.

Same for football.

I contribute to other shoes yes, but as he often wants £100 ones, he has to pay the rest himself. I should add I have NEVER spent more than £60 on a pair of shoes my whole life.

I remember myself at the same age and I had a little cheapy canvas pair for going out in the summer and school shoes. That was it! The entitlement and materialism gets on my nerves tbh, even my own sons .

School shoes - cheap as poss for ds who is growing like a weed. £25 from m&s.
Trainers - £100 or so but he wears all the time.
School trainers - £35ish - cheapest reasonable ones I can get

Flip flops for summer - £20!

I could shudder in horror at teen boys & their trainers.
£50 budget per pair is pretty reasonable. Bit more for dress/interview shoes.

I do this already, DD is 11, and I will happily buy her what shoes she needs. However, she needs trainers, not Adidas red stripes (or whatever the hell she wants this month!) So I will agree to spend £50 - she then pays the difference to get the flashy brand - funny how often she finds a pair she loves for £50 or less!!

It works with lots of things, She needed a pencil case, and wanted one from Smiggle, so I told her I would buy her one from WHSmith, or she could buy a Smiggle one with her pocket money. As soon as she saw the price in Smiggle she decided a cheaper one from Smiths would be great!

I will spend money on good shoes before any other piece of clothing. We are still mostly concerned with fit - the teens have very, very narrow feet, so I don't even ask about the cost of school shoes, I just pay it! Ds's shoes cost around £80, Dd's £65. Casual shoes are a nightmare - they have never been able to casually pick up a pair of fashion shoes.

If he plays higher level footy out of school, then decent boots (which are £££) are a must as they get a lot of wear. However, most boys want to have the "right" boots...

School shoes - probably up to £60, but look for vouchers/sales if at all possible.

Aside from that, DS has so many pairs of trainers that I don't need to buy him any - he buys them out of his own money!

For trainers and football boots look for local Nike / Adidas outlets, you can always get decent pairs for under £50 there.

Late to this thread I know but I would also suggest Nike outlet especially if you need more than one pair, often the second is half price.

Also when their feet are growing really fast and the trainers are still in good condition you can ebay them secondhand.

I used to at £100 for a pair but when you can get £30 + selling them on ebay it doesn't seem so bad really.

I once sold a pair from Nike outlet secondhand for more than what I paid for them they can be quite desirable
